Leading Brisbane restaurateur, Romain Bapst, Chef & Owner of Brisbane French restaurant Lutèce Bistro & Wine Bar was awarded Chevalier de l’Ordre du Merite Agricole” – (the Knight Order of Agricultural Merit) by the French government & Minister Stephane Le Foll on 31st January 2017.
The Knight Order of Agricultural Merit is an order bestowed by the French Republic for outstanding contribution to agriculture. It is only second in importance to the Legion of Honour.
The order was established on 7 July 1883 based on the proposition of the then Minister of Agricul- ture Jules Méline in an effort to adequately reward services to agriculture. His reasoning was that more than eighteen million Frenchmen lived directly from this industry which had a direct and most powerful impact on the entire national economy, farmer’s, agronomist’s, professor’s, researcher’s, labour was intensive & never ending; devotion was commonplace but the rewards were rare.
This award reflects Romain Bapst’s tireless devotion to the promotion of French cuisine for three decades & his support in making Brisbane “Australia’s New World City” by pinning Brisbane on the Asia Pacific Culinary Map. Romain has been awarded:
• Président Académie Culinaire de France Australie • President Bocuse D’Or Australie
• Chairman Bocuse D’Or Australie
• Président Les Toques Blanches Queensland
• Sole Maître Canardier in Australia
• Membre des Toques Blanches du Monde
